Iran and Syria Are Not Our Friends

December 1, 2006

If the leaks can be believed about the scheduled release next week of the Iraq study commission report, members will recommend the United States engage Syria and Iran in bringing stability to the region.

This would be like asking Hitler to help in protecting Jews from the holocaust or Stalin to feed the hungry in the Ukraine during his forced famine. Has anyone noticed that Iran and Syria are contributing to the instability? Why would they help the United States when a democracy is the last thing they want in their neighborhood?

In all the leaks, there is not one word about victory; not one about vanquishing these religious fanatics. Do you think they have commissions looking for a way out? No, they don’t. They are committed for however long it takes and their objective is to win… to win by whatever means it takes, but to win.

Why is that so difficult for us to understand? Why do so many think we can wash our hands and say “never mind” and come home to parades and pretend we can go on with life as before. We can’t because they won’t. This is World War III and the only way it will end is victory – for us, or for them.
