If press reports are true the so-called "Gang of Eight" in the Senate plans to drop an immigration reform bill today. The bill is said to be 1,500 pages, and senators will have less than a day to read it all before the one and only hearing scheduled by liberal Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy takes place Wednesday afternoon.
The bill is said to include a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal aliens in America. What it will do is guarantee Democrats nearly 11 million new votes, most of them in Texas, which has become a target for their party.
People who break our laws should not be rewarded with citizenship. Worker's visas? Fine, but not citizenship and no welfare or food stamps. All of these will attract even more illegals as the last reform bill did in 1986. Why would Republicans sign off on this? Do they really think these new citizens will vote for them? You can't outbid Democrats for goodies and votes.
