Help America, Help Americans

December 17, 2010

The legislation came so fast and furious in Washington this week that it was difficult to keep up. It is the last gasp of the left before the new Congress arrives; although the left never gives up. When they're in the majority they use power and when they're in the minority they plot and scheme to defeat the majority and slow conservative progress.

Politicians invariably talk about "the American people" as if we are one in ideology and belief. What they really mean is they are doing things for themselves and the interest groups that contribute to their campaigns and personal perks.

Instead of what they are doing under the guise of helping "the American people," they ought to be helping America by doing less, taxing less and certainly spending less. Helping America would be helping Americans to understand the blessings of liberty, not government. Government is supposed to secure liberty, not restrict it. Liberty offers Americans a chance to achieve all they can be if they work at it.

By helping America, politicians ultimately help the American people.
