A president takes an oath to uphold the laws of the United States. Has President Obama violated that oath?
The administration has bowed to pressure from immigrant groups and will halt deportation proceedings against illegals on a case-by-case basis. That means if they are attending school, have family members in the military, or have primary responsibility for the care of other family members, they can stay.
But the president has been saying for months he lacks the broad categorical authority to stop deportations and that he must follow the laws as written by Congress. Apparently not.
Crminals will be deported first. But wait, aren’t those who violated our laws to get here criminals? Apparently not.
This is nothing more than a ploy for Hispanic votes. Predictably, Hispanic activists and certain liberal democrats have praised the move. The president is in trouble with American voters. His only hope of re-election is importing voters and quickly hooking them on government programs.
