This year we get an extra day to render unto Caesar because April 15th fell on a Sunday. Have you noticed that the government never has enough of our money to spend on programs, old and new?
Ronald Reagan may be the last republican president to say that government is the problem, not the solution. But the real problem is too many of us see government as redeemer and protector. We have moved from an era in which self-sufficiency was practiced and promoted, to one in which entitlement is king. From government as a last resort, we now view government as a first resource.
We also live in an age of class envy, perpetuated by some politicians who want us more dependent on them. Are people making too much money – whatever is meant by “too much”? Then we must tax them more because it isn’t fair to those who make too little. Instead of overcoming, too many just sing about overcoming, never expecting to actually overcome. They also demand more from those who have overcome.
This is the attitude you and i are subsidizing with our tax dollars which are due today. Happy tax day! The blood-sucking government vampires thank you. But they’ll be back for more.
