Gloating Politicians, Fawning Media

December 28, 2010

Don't you hate it when politicians gloat? That's what President Obama and the Democrat Congress did last week as they gloated over repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," ratified a dubious treaty with the Russians and pushed through another $900 billion in spending while keeping the Bush tax rates.

The only thing worse than gloating politicians is obsequious journalists. At President Obama's last news conference of the year before he took off for Hawaii to join Michelle, who had traveled separately at an additional cost of $63,000 to us, journalists were practically falling over themselves to praise him.

"Congratulations, Mr. President," said one. "Are you the new ‘comeback kid'?" asked another. Several wished him a "Merry Christmas." ABC's Jake Tapper asked the president about same-sex marriage the way a gay rights advocate would ask it. The president said his views on that are "evolving." I'm sure he'll come out for it in time for the 2012 election.

When liberal Democrats are in power, they use it. Now let's see if the Republicans will do the same and if they can stand the heat from the suck-up squad known as the media establishment.
