For Obama, Left Is Mainstream

March 8, 2010

When it comes to nominations and appointments, Republican presidents are supposed to name moderates who are "in the mainstream," as the saying goes. But Democratic presidents get to nominate hard core left-wingers and for the media, it's no problem.

That's the case with Chai Feldblum, a Georgetown University law professor, avowed lesbian and a drafter of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. President Obama has nominated her to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The bill she helped draft, which is still pending in Congress, would prohibit employment discrimination based on someone's perceived or real sexual orientation. In 2008, Feldblum signed a mission statement sponsored by a group called beyondmarriage.org that critics say endorsed polygamy.

An anonymous Republican senator has placed a hold on her nomination. We'll see how that works out. But in Obama world, anything goes for Obama and the hard core left.
