Everything is Right on God's Schedule

What are you expecting out of tomorrow night's first presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney? Most people, I suspect, are already locked into their choice, but the race is tight enough if one or the other makes an excellent case for himself, it could tip some of the dwindling undecideds.

I was talking with a friend at church Sunday about this. He was very concerned about the direction of the country. I said, "What did you expect the 'end times' to look like?" Scripture teaches things aren't going to get better, but worse until Jesus returns and makes all things new again.

I also asked why God should bless America when we do so many things He says in His word are an affront to Him. The psalmist wrote, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" and "The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men." Must I remind you of what is vile that we honor? I'm not saying we shouldn't pray for the debates, the election, the nation or not vote. I am saying everything is right on God's schedule.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
