After the hoopla surrounding former Congressman Mark Foley and calls for Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign, comes a report that Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, democrat of Nevada, made $1.1 million in a land deal even though he had not owned the property for three years. Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend of his and in which he had a financial stake.
Reid says he’s filing an amended disclosure form with the Senate Ethics Committee.
Let’s apply the same standard to Reid as Reid, his fellow democrats and their media allies apply to republicans. How about a full congressional investigation? How about an investigation by people like ABC’s Brian Ross, who did the first network report on Foley’s emails after they had been known by Ross and other media types for many months? They were made public this close to the election for the maximum political impact on republicans.
Fair is far: equal treatment for democrats and republicans. Harry Reid should come clean about the land deal, or be forced to, before the election.
