Defending America

January 31, 2005

Last Thursday I participated in a panel discussion at the United Nations.

I did it as a favor to an acquaintance against my better judgment.

I have been exposed to these things many times - the token conservative and religious gut who others would mock.

The French correspondent seated next to me expressed shock that President Bush mentions God so much and says "God bless America."

"We don't do that in France," she said.

The reporter turned syndicated columnist spent her time bashing America.

She called for the withdrawal of all troops from everywhere.

She thinks we should talk to Iran and North Korea.

She found nothing good to say about her own country.

I was the only one defending America and the policy of confronting and defeating evil.

The columnist said she had faith in the United Nations to bring peace.

I noted there was no evidence the U.N. could do that and, in fact, the U.N. represented blind faith in human nature which did not deserve the honor.

I guess I'm glad for the experience.

It was another reminder of how many do not understand the true nature of man.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
