Debates Not Worth Watching

Did you watch the latest so-called debates in New Hampshire last weekend? The one on ABC with George Stephanopoulos and Diane Sawyer was pathetic. It's the same old song when liberals ask questions of Republicans: What about gay marriage, what about abortion, what about contraception?

Hey, what about the $15 trillion debt? What about Obama's drastic cuts in military spending? What about Iran and the threat that country poses, along with its attempt to spread Shia Islam in Latin America? Could we please have some substance from you people once in a while?

These questions are designed to produce answers that Democrats like them can use in sound bites against the eventual Republican nominee. It isn't serious journalism, which is why I have long said the candidates should refuse to participate in them. Instead, they should set up their own formats with questioners of their choosing. That kind of debate would be worth watching. These weren't.

In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, I'm Cal Thomas.
