Cool the Hype

March 14, 2007

Former Vice President Al Gore may be hot among the Hollywood community, but his fundamentalist dogma about “global warming” is finally attracting significant opposition in some scientific circles.

Last week, a British television station carried a documentary critical of Gore’s contention that human behavior is mostly responsible for the slight temperature increases on the planet.

Now the New York Times – which is about as fundamentalist as it comes about all things liberal – has published a story in which some scientists are urging Gore to “cool the hype” about global warming. Don Easterbrook, an emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University, told hundreds of experts at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America, “There are a lot of inaccuracies in the statements we are seeing and we have to temper that with real data.”

The debate is not about warming, but the cause of it. Since the planet has alternately cooled and warmed over many years, why the rush to declare a single cause now? The answer is the left’s desire to grow government and control more of our lives.
