Compromised Education

May 13, 2009

The Obama administration has reached what it calls a compromise on the Washington, D.C. school voucher program. Students currently in the program will be allowed to complete their education at private schools, but no new students will be allowed in.

This isn’t a compromise. This is mandated failure for thousands of students and their parents who want the same opportunity for a private and superior education, the kind the Obamas are giving their two daughters. They can afford to send their kids to pricey private schools. Much of poor Washington cannot.

I thought Democrats cared about the unfortunate. They care more about the teachers’ unions and the money and votes it provides to liberal Democratic politicians.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration has come up with another compromise. It will allow D.C. tax dollars, but not federal money, to pay for abortions in Washington. I guess they figure that if there are fewer children to educate they won’t need scholarships to rescue them from bad schools. You can’t teach a dead child, after all.
