Cal Thomas: D.C. Shootings a Reminder of Evil

The shootings of recent days in the Washington, D.C. area have caused even more uncertainty and apprehension in a region still recovering from the September 11 terrorist attacks of a year ago. Six people have been murdered by an unknown gunman, while two others have been seriously wounded -- including a 13-year-old boy who was struck as he was dropped off at school yesterday.

When I was growing up, everyone knew where the "unsafe" neighborhoods were, and we avoided them. Now, with these shootings, and with terrorism, there are no safe neighborhoods.

A tape played on Al-Jazeera television purports to be the voice of Osama bin Laden calling on Arab youth to again attack the United States.

Chaos was prophesied long ago in scripture, which is one more incentive to be sure of your salvation and that of those closest to you – along with everyone you meet who will listen. It’s going to get worse before it gets better, if, in fact, it gets better.

Even while we pray that those who plot evil against the innocent are caught before they can do it, we had better be ready should evil pay us another visit.

I’m cal Thomas in Washington.
