Breaching Obama's System

December 31, 2009

After saying that "the system worked," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano beat a hasty retreat and acknowledged there were breakdowns in the system. There were some suggestions by Obama supporters that former President George W. Bush is to blame because he set up the system following 9/11.

But that didn't go anywhere because if the system was broken, President Obama and his team have had nearly a year to fix it.

Some Republicans are now blaming Democrats. Defenders of the defenders are wondering if that might not backfire on Republicans. Liberals never wonder if Democrat criticism of Republicans might backfire on them. That's the way the political system works.

If ever there were an issue where bipartisanship should rule, it is national security. Terrorists don't discriminate when they kill. But it's President Obama's system now. His apologies and outreach to the fanatics in the Muslim world clearly is not working. It's his job to fix the system.
