A Change in Language, Not in Policy

August 14, 2008

The Democratic Party platform is complete and the headline in one Washington paper says the party is trying to reach out to pro-lifers. It is doing this by supporting adoption as one way to reduce the number of abortions.

In typical liberal style, the Democrats want more government programs to do this. And the pro-choice language remains, though some pro-choice groups have protested the adoption language, which should tell you something.

Liberal Christians like Jim Wallis are hailing this language in the party platform as something bold and new for Democrats. But this is like saying you can own a slave if you want, or not. Adoption, abortion, it’s still all about choice and not the integrity and sanctity of the human life that is killed in an abortion.

This is cynical manipulation by party leaders. Nothing will change about abortion if liberal Democrats are elected. No Supreme Court nominee will favor overturning Roe vs. Wade. It’s a ploy designed to fool just enough into voting for Barack Obama.
