Worship Music Sweeps Christian Music Grammy Nominations

In the announcement of Grammy Award nominations last week, worship music swept the Christian music nominations.

Dante Bowe, a member of Bethel Music and the Maverick City Music, received five nominations, while Maverick City Music also received five nominations.

Worship artist Tauren Wells received two nominations for best contemporary Christian music performance/song for “Hold Us Together (Hope Mix)” with H.E.R. and best contemporary Christian music album for the album Citizen of Heaven (Live).

“Overwhelmed and elated. I was not expecting these nominations, but I am so incredibly grateful,” Wells wrote on Instagram.

On Bowe’s Instagram, he wrote of the nominations: “Five Grammy nominations! God is kind.”

A post about the Grammy nominations on the Maverick City Music page read, “Maverick – Unorthodox, free spirit, rule breaker, one that breaks away from the herd.”

Other nominees included CeCe Winans, Elevation Worship, Kirk Franklin, Jakalyn Carr, Natalie Grant and Kari Jobe.

Last year, Kanye West’s “Jesus Is King” won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. He did not attend the awards ceremony.

Also, last year, Dolly Parton won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian music performance/song for her collaboration with Christian rock artist Zach Williams in the song “There Was Jesus.”

“Thank you Jesus, thank you Zach Williams, and thank you to the Grammys and all of our fans,” Parton posted on Instagram. “I am very humbled but proud.”

According to The Christian Post, the 2022 Grammy Award Show will be broadcast live from the Staples Center on CBS and Paramount+ on Jan. 21, 2022. Trevor Noah of The Daily Show will host the event for the second year in a row.

“Why would I not want to do the Grammys?” Noah said on CBS. “It’s a front-row ticket to the best music concert of all time.”
