Ukrainian Nun and Priest Murdered in Separate Attacks

A Ukrainian nun was found dead at her apartment in Kiev on Wednesday (July 29), according to Christian Today. Sister Alevtina, 62, served as a nun at the Florivsky Convent in Kiev.

The nun appears to have been tortured before she was killed.

Alevtina's mentor sister, Maria-Agafia, was shown photos of the crime seen. She said, "Her killer was so cruel. He strangled and beat her. The burns from the cigarette stubs were all over her body. Her hands were tied.”

In a separate incident Wednesday, a Ukrainian priest died and after being shot in the head on Sunday (July 26). Father Roman Nikolayev was found by a neighbor nearby his home in Kiev’s Obolon district.

Police do not believe the killings are related.

Police spokeswoman Iryna Levchenko said, "The investigation does not connect these episodes… They are in fact very different. Two separate investigation teams are working on them. But we are exploring different versions."
