China’s strict two-child policy has tragically resulted in the death of a woman who was forced to have four abortions.
The Christian Post reports that the woman, identified only as Yueyue, already gave birth to a girl with her husband.
In China, each couple is only allowed to have two children, which often results in more frequent and forced abortions because many families want boys.
When Yueyue became pregnant again, her husband made her get an ultrasound (even though this is illegal) to determine the sex of the baby. When the couple found out it was another girl, Yueyue’s husband forced her to abort the child.
This happened three more times, all within a year. After the last time, Yueyue became bedridden and ill.
To make matters worse, her husband then forced her to give him a divorce so that he could marry a different woman and have a boy.
Yueyue used the money she received in the divorce settlement to pay for the medical attention she needed, but it was too late, and she died.
Now Yueyue’s relatives are trying to obtain justice for the wrongs Yueyue suffered. They went to her ex-husband’s new home, but he refused to meet with them.
China’s previous one-child policy caused destruction and tragedy in so many families, and the newer two-child policy is not much better.
"The government imposed a coercive birth-limitation policy that, despite lifting one-child-per-family restrictions, denied women the right to decide the number of their children and in some cases resulted in forced abortions (sometimes at advanced stages of pregnancy)," according to a report released by the U.S. State Department.
