Texas Megachurch Converts Bar into New Church Campus

A Texas megachurch has purchased an existing bar with plans to transform it into a new church campus.

The Christian Post reports Stonegate Fellowship Church, based in Midland purchased the former Graham Central Station bar in Odessa for $3 million. After extensive renovations, it will open for services.

Stonegate Fellowship pastor David McReynolds said that the church had been eyeing the property for some time.

"It is in a great location and is the right size building that we were planning to build. The property is well known in the area and is somewhat of a landmark," said McReynolds.

Renovation plans include removing all interior walls to rebuild them in the proper places. A large worship auditorium will be built, in addition to children’s ministry space and meeting rooms.

McReynolds said, "We will completely change the outside of the building as well. It has a very distinct look that worked for the way it was used as a bar. We will completely transform the exterior to look similar to our Midland location."

The Stonegate Fellowship Odessa congregation are currently meeting in a local middle school.

Odessa pastor Chad Bullard said he hopes the new building will attract new people to the church. Currently, the Odessa church draws about 400 weekly attendees.

The church hopes to open its news campus in December 2016.
