Members of the Taliban killed 11 and injured 22 in a suicide mission early Thursday morning. The terrorist group targeted a police station in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, where a bomb attack and gun fight commenced.
The first two bombs went off before dawn at the police station. Following the explosions, Taliban members approached the station armed with weapons and wearing suicide vests. Police reported that the fight lasted over three hours, even with assistance for Afghan forces from NATO helicopter gunships.
Afghan police forces shot and killed six members of the terrorist group. The 11 Afghans killed included a district chief of police, as well as Fazel Ahmad Shirzad, a chief of the Nangahar province. An Afghan U.N. staff member was among the wounded.
Taliban members assaulted police as a demonstration against the coming presidential election on April 5. The terrorist group previously voiced their intention to kill anyone who participates in the election, and has instigated similar battles in populated areas Afghanistan since the start of 2014.
After the assault, police found two more explosives on the road that connect Jalalabad and Kabul. The bombs were properly disposed of by security forces.
