On Monday, negotiators resumed talks in Vienna about reviving Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

“I feel positive that we can be doing important things for the next weeks,” EU diplomat Enrique Mora said, according to the Associated Press.

Mora said officials in Tehran have shown that they are willing to do “serious work” to revive the accord, and other countries have shown a willingness to listen to other positions and “sensibilities.”

The proposed nuclear deal includes representatives from Iran, Russia, China, France, Germany and Britain. A U.S. delegation is staying at a nearby hotel in Vienna and staying briefed on the ongoing negotiations.

The U.S. left the deal under former President Donald Trump’s direction in 2018.

“There is a sense of urgency in putting an end to the suffering of the Iranian people,” Mora said.

“And there is a sense of urgency in putting the Iranian nuclear program under the transparent monitoring of the international community.”

Previously, the nuclear deal has limited Iran’s enrichment of uranium in exchange for lifting some economic sanctions.

After the deal collapsed, Iran enriched small amounts of uranium up to 60 percent purity. Weapons-grade level of enrichment is 90 percent purity.

Iran has said that its atomic program is peaceful.

Russia’s top representative, Mikhail Ulyanov, said he had “useful” informal consultations with officials from Iran and China over the weekend.

The new Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi appointed a delegation to join negotiations for the first time. Iran’s demands include calling for the U.S. to unfreeze $10 billion in assets in a gesture of goodwill.

Ali Bagheri, an Iran nuclear negotiator, told news reporters that the Islamic Republic “has entered the talks with serious willpower and strong preparation.” He said, however, he did not have a “timeframe on the length of these talks.”

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said in a video statement that “Iran deserves no rewards, no bargain deals and no sanctions relief in return for their brutality.”
