Student Responds to Removal of Christian Poster

A teacher at Rusk Independent School District in Rusk, Texas, was recently asked to remove a poster featuring a Bible verse. One student, Cameron Franks, has responded by selling Christian t-shirts in support of the teacher.

The poster that was removed features a verse from Romans 1:16, which reads, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” On the poster, the Scripture is shaped as a cross. Beneath the verse reads, “This poster is illegal in 51 countries.”

A student from Rusk High School reportedly contacted the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) with a complaint about the poster, after which the foundation informed the district that the poster was unlawful.

District Superintendent Scott Davis said he had the poster removed as it was an alleged violation of the Constitution’s Establishment Clause, stating, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

Cameron Franks says he felt compelled to speak out.

“I didn’t think this was such a good idea at first, but then I was like, ‘You know what? I don’t care anymore,’” he said. “I’m tired of it. I’m tired of hiding in the corner. And so I was like, ‘I’m going to do it, and I’m going to see how the reactions are, and if they’re negative so be it and if they’re positive so be it.”

So far over 2,000 of Franks’ shirts have been sold so far.
