Severe Weather Continues to Pound Southeast, Leaving 28 Dead

Severe weather continues to pound the southeast with storms and tornadoes. The storms have now crossed 10 state lines and killed 28 people reports ABC News.

Storm damage is extensive in the area, as three days of severe weather has pummeled many houses and businesses to the ground. Some survivors have lost nearly all of their possessions; others are left left without power if they still have a home at all.

Kimberly Church of God in Kimberly, Alabama is just one of the building that was demolished in the storm. Pastor Stan Cooke protected 25 community members by keeping them in the basement.

“For about 30 seconds, it was unbelieveable. It’s about as awful as anything we’ve gone through,” Cooke said.

Another tornado struck Tupelo, Mississippi was extensive force. Vanelli’s restaurant in town was filled with 13 people dining at the time. Owner Vaz Vanelli said he ushered the citizens into the restaurant’s walk-in cooler. The business was left without walls or a roof, but everyone survived.

“The building shook a little bit and your ears popped. Ten to 15 seconds later, it’s done,” Vanelli said.

Forecasters predict that the harsh weather will continue through Tuesday and Wednesday. Authorities urge citizens in the area to keep constant vigilance and take cover when storms strike.
