Second Pastor Shot and Killed in Florida City in Two Months

Bradenton, Florida saw its second murder of a clergy member in two months, as Pastor Anthony Shinholster was shot and killed Sunday (Jan. 18) in his home. Shinholster’s death followed the murder of Rev. James “Tripp” Battle who was killed in a shooting spree on Dec. 4, 2014.

Christian Today reports Shinholster served as pastor of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. He was known in the community for manning his fruit and vegetable stand and was well-liked. Pastor Shinholster’s sister, Thenecia, said she could not think of anyone who would wish harm on her brother.

“He was a wonderful man,” she said.

Pastor Battle of Bayshore Baptist Church was killed alongside Amber Avalos and her friend Denise Potter. Andres “Andy” Avalos, husband of Amber, confessed to the crime and remains in custody of police.

The two shooting were deemed unconnected.
