Searchers Find Debris, Bodies Belonging to AirAsia Missing Plane

Crews continue to search the Java Sea for AirAsia flight 8501 but progress has been made since the plane went missing Sunday morning (Dec. 28). ABC News reports that some debris belonging to the plane have been discovered along with three bodies of passengers.

In a statement, the airline said, "AirAsia Indonesia regrets to inform that The National Search and Rescue Agency Republic of Indonesia (BASARNAS) today confirmed that the debris found earlier today is indeed from QZ8501, the flight that had lost contact with air traffic control on the morning of 28th December 2014.”

According to Bambang Soelistyo, the head of BASARNAS, a shadow that appears to be the shape of a plane has been seen in the Java Sea as well.

ABC News reports AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes said upon hearing the news of the discovered bodies and plane parts, "My heart is filled with sadness for all the families involved in QZ8501. Words cannot express how sorry I am."
