Search and Rescue Teams Believe They Have Found AirAsia Flight 8501

Indonesian search and rescue teams believe that they have found AirAsia flight 8501 on the sea floor off the coast of Borneo island.

The plane, which went missing Sunday (Dec. 28) had 162 people on board.

Christian Today reports that sonar detected a large, dark mass sitting about 100-165 feet under the water’s surface in the Java Sea which rescuers believe to be the missing plane. Rescue team had found debris belonging to the plane and bodies floating in the area.

So far, seven bodies have been recovered from the scene.

Bad weather in the area continues to hamper the search and rescue process, as six to nine feet waves and high winds prevent divers from entering the water.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said, "I feel a deep loss over this disaster and pray for the families to be given fortitude and strength.”
