San Francisco: Priest Walks Streets, Praying Where Homicides Occurred

A Catholic priest has made it his mission to walk the streets of San Francisco and pray in the places where violent homicides took place.

ChristianToday.com reports that Rev. Michael Quinn of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, along with his two colleagues, regularly walk the streets of San Francisco, relying on the power of prayer.

The priests stand in the places where homicides took place and pray that God would “dispel this shadow of death” that hangs over the area.

“You kinda get used to the neighborhoods,” Rev. Quinn told The San Francisco Examiner.

When the priests don’t know exactly where a homicide took place, they choose to pray under a nearby tree.

"We usually like to pray near a tree when we don't know the exact spot, because it's a sign of life," Julio Escobar, one of Rev. Quinn's fellow workers, told The Examiner.

The priests do not stop at prayer, however. They also seek to help the communities and families of those killed. Additionally, they go into jails and prisons to minister to people.

"We connect with the family and accompany the family through that process and invite them to come to spiritual retreat to find comfort in healing," Escobar said. "Then, when ready, they help other families."
