'Same God' Professor to Leave Wheaton College after Dispute

The Wheaton College professor who made national headlines for wearing a Muslim hijab during Advent and arguing that Muslims and Christians worship the same God will be permanently leaving the Wheaton faculty.

Christian Today reports Dr. Larycia Hawkins and Wheaton College president Dr. Philip Ryken came to a joint agreement that the professor would not return from suspension.

Ryken said in a statement, "Wheaton College sincerely appreciates Dr Hawkins' contributions to this institution over the last nine years. We are grateful for her passionate teaching, scholarship, community service and mentorship of our students."

Hawkins said, "I appreciate and have great respect for the Christian liberal arts and the ways that Wheaton College exudes that in its mission, programmes, and in the calibre of its employees and students."

Hawkins and Ryken will reportedly hold a press conference Wednesday (Feb. 10) regarding Hawkins’ exit from Wheaton.
