Russell Moore: Donald Trump Needs to ‘Repent of Sin’

Russell Moore, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, has said he hopes Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will “repent of sin.”

As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, Moore has a history of criticizing Trump, and throughout the 2016 election process has taken to Twitter to speak out agaisnt the presumptive Republican nominee.

In a recent interview with CBN News, Moore said he hopes that Trump will turn to Christ and “repent of sin,” and that this change of heart will cause a shift in some of Trump’s policies.

My "primary prayer for Donald Trump is that he would first of all repent of sin and come to faith in Jesus Christ,” said Moore, according to ChristianToday.com.

"And then [my prayer would be] that he would be somebody who would act in terms of principles of justice, which would mean a change, not only in terms of the way in which he's changing the moral character of people, including the people that are supporting him and getting on the bandwagon, having had to excuse things that they've never had to excuse before and then of course in terms of being a ruler in a limited sense within an American constitutional framework who understands principles of justice. That would be a remarkable change," Moore continued.

Although Trump has gained the support of some prominent evangelicals, such as Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and First Baptist Church of Dallas pastor Robert Jeffress, many, like Moore, remain hesitant to give him their support if not completely opposed to endorsing him.

Trump claims to be a Christian, and specifically, a Presbyterian, although many evangelicals have pointed out his gaffes when referencing the Bible.
