Rubio, Fiorina, Cruz Gaining Ground among Evangelicals

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina is catching up to Republican Marco Rubio’s lead in WORLD’s evangelical insiders survey.

According to WORLD Magazine, the survey, which took place after last week’s debate, included about 90 evangelical leaders and insiders.

In total, 40 percent of respondents named Fiorina as either their first or second choice. Last month, she held 25 percent of the vote.

“Her command of the issues, her tenacity, her policy positions, and her life story all make her a very appealing candidate,” said survey participant Kay Coles James, president of The Gloucester Institute and a Heritage Foundation board member.

Rubio jumped a few points to 57 percent of first and second choices.

“While the success of Pat Robertson, Mike Huckabee, and Rick Santorum demonstrates the significant influence of the evangelical faction of GOP primary voters, it also proves its limitations,” said Eric Teetsel, a survey participant. “Rubio’s sincere faith and record of leadership on the issues of life, marriage, and religious liberty—combined with his charisma and communication skills—have captivated evangelicals hungry for a win.”

Republican Ted Cruz dropped to third place overall. Donald Trump, who commands the lead in national polls, received only 2 percent of the vote in the survey.
