Republicans Win Control of Senate with Seven Seats Gained

Results have come in from Election Day and the Republican party won seven new seats in the Senate -- enough to take control back from the Democrats. Republicans needed to gain six seats in the Senate to become the majority party.

The Senate and House of Representatives will now both have a GOP majority, and thus have “the power to pin down President Barack Obama during his last two years in office,” CNN reports

Mitch McConnell, is expected to become the next Senate majority leader. In his victory speech he said, "For too long, this administration has tried to tell the American people what is good for them and then blame somebody else when their policies didn't work out.”

The House of Representatives will have the largest Republican majority since World War II.

Speaker of the House John Boehner said that “this is not a time for celebration," he said. "It's time for government to start getting results and implementing solutions to the challenges facing our country…”
