President Obama Expands Air Strikes Against ISIS in "Offensive" Move

President Obama has announced on Sunday (Sept. 7) that he is planning offensive moves against the Islamic State (ISIS or IS). 

The President will address the country on Wednesday (Sept. 10) with an explanation of his plans, but he he told NBC interviewer Chuck Todd that “the next phase is now to start going on some offense. We have to get an Iraqi government in place, and I'm optimistic that next week we should be able to get that done."

Obama also approved five airstrikes on IS terrorists which were carried out Sunday. Reuters reports that the strikes successfully drove the Muslim extremists away from the Mosul dam and destroyed a number of IS military vehicles. 

The President said his future plans will include military, diplomatic and economic work CNN reports. However, Obama promised that he will not be “sending 100,000 American troops” for the task. 

"I just want the American people to understand the nature of the threat and how we're going to deal with it and to have confidence that we'll be able to deal with it,” Obama said.
