Phyllis Schlafly-Founded Eagle Forum in Turmoil Due to Ted Cruz Campaign Tactics

The leader of Eagle Forum, a joining of conservative groups, says the group’s recent internal fighting has stemmed from Ted Cruz’s “dirty tricks.”

According to The Daily Beast, the group, which was founded by anti-feminist Phyllis Schlafly in 1972, has been “rocked by inner turmoil over the last week.”

The conflict comes after Schlafly endorsed Donald Trump, Cruz’ opponent for the Republican presidential nomination. Eagle Forum head Ed Martin said the Cruz campaign team then leaked private emails within the Eagle Forum. Cruz’s campaign manager Jeff Roe then confronted Martin about the emails.

“Jeff Roe has a reputation for dirty tricks that he likes to encourage,” Martin said. “A plus B plus C makes you start thinking — it adds up to this.”

“I know Phyllis is convinced that some of these people are motivated by that,” he added.

The email reportedly was about Cruz and his wife.

“There was an email that was forwarded to me that was very critical of Ted and Heidi Cruz, and being a strong supporter, of course I did give that to a person in the campaign,” said board member Cathie Adams, adding that Schlafly herself did not write that email.

“It was a very ugly email,” she said. “And I really want to drop it at that, and I don’t want to be fingering the person who wrote it.”
