Photos of a 19-week-old baby boy who died minutes after birth are sweeping the Internet.
“I shared these photos so my friends and family could see my perfect child,” Lexi Fretz of Greencastle, Pa. wrote in a blog post. “I never, ever could have imagined that it would spread across the world like this.”
Christian News Network reports Fretz and her husband Joshua were expecting their third child in 2013. Then in August of 2013, Fretz went to the emergency room when she started spotting at 20 weeks. She was set to receive an ultrasound, but then started going into premature labor. She then delivered 19-week-old Walter.
“I was crying so hard at this point but he was perfect,” she wrote on her blog. “He was fully formed and everything was there, I could see his heart beating in his tiny chest. Joshua and I both held him and cried over him and looked over our perfect, tiny son.
“I held him, cuddled him. While his heart was beating, I held him to my heart, I counted his toes and kissed his tiny head,” Fretz said.
Walter died a few minutes later.
Since then, photos of Walter have been shared around the world.
“I’m still in shock at how much his photos have been shared and commented on. In his short life of just a few minutes, he has touched more lives than I ever could have imagined,” she said. “In all our hurt, I am glad that some good can come out of this. I pray that the Lord will continue to use Walter’s photos to impact many.”
