As many pro-life advocates feared, Pennsylvania’s pro-abortion governor has vetoed a bill that would have banned abortions after 20 weeks.
As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, the bill had bipartisan support, but Gov. Tom Wolf had vowed to veto it.
After vetoing the measure, Wolf called it a “vile assault on women's ability to make their own decisions about their own health care,” reports The Hill.
Those who were in favor of the bill banning abortions after 20 weeks argue that new research has shown that unborn babies can feel pain at 20 weeks gestation. Several other states have already adopted 20-week abortion bans, often known as “pain-capable unborn child” bills.
Pennsylvania Republicans accused Wolf of being a “puppet” of Planned Parenthood. Wolf reportedly has ties to Planned Parenthood and has even appointed one of the organization’s board members as his chief of staff.
“Tom Wolf is a puppet of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s number one provider of abortions, and is going to gladly accept their special-interest money for more political favors,” said Greg Manz, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Republican Party.
The Hill reports that the House has passed a similar 20-week abortion ban bill on the federal level, but the bill is not expected to pass in the Senate.
