Pastor Sparks Debate with Blog: 'If I Have Gay Children I Will Love Them'

A North Carolina pastor has gained attention for a blog post entitled “If I Have Gay Children: Four Promises from a Christian Pastor/Parent.” Pastor John Pavlovitz writes that he will continue to love his children if they turn out to be gay.

"If I have gay children, you'll all know it. If I have gay children, I'll pray for them, I'll love them, and if I have gay children, most likely; I have gay children,” Pavlovitz, wrote.

Over 3,100 people commented on the pastor’s blog with a mixture of criticism and praise, but the pastor said he knew that the public’s response would not be all positive.

"I was prepared for some people to applaud it, and for others to condemn it. That's what happens whenever you put an opinion out there. I was fully prepared for the waves of both support and hostility that accompany any vantage point, especially on a controversial topic like this,” Pavlovitz said.

The pastor told The Christian Post that he felt compelled to write about the controversial issue “because I've been in ministry for 18 years and have seen many LGBT people be mistreated and damaged by the Church, and with a lack of decency. I wanted to share a different sentiment from a Christian and pastor.”

Pavlovitz served as pastor of Good Shepherd Church UMC in Charlotte for eight years before he moved to his current position as a community house church pastor.
