Thousands of Christian communicators have descended upon Nashville, Tenn for the annual National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) International Christian Media Convention. Among the dozens of seminars and featured speakers, the Israel Ministry of Tourism hosted a breakfast event to honor of the ongoing support of evangelical Christians for the Middle Eastern nation.
The annual breakfast, entitled “Celebrate Israel,” met just as Palestinian leaders announced a boycott to cease trade with Israel. Several European companies have opted to participate in the boycott, but Israeli financial experts contend the lost funds represent less the one percent in trade revenue between Europe and Israel.
“The boycott is really about denying Israel the right to exist,” Israeli Tourism Minister Dr. Uzi Landau said to more than 300 Christian communicators. “This is also a new form of anti-Semitism.
The international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is designed to force Israel to rethink its development of settlements. Housing developments Palestinian leaders call “occupation.”
“A boycott is another way for terrorist leaders to remove Judeo-Christian values from the Israeli landscape,” said Landua. “This is a campaign of vilification. It is when honest people succumb to evil ideas. They will not stop until Sharia Law is the law of the land.”
“We need you – as students of the Bible – to bear witness of historical justice. We need the support of the Christian world to support the Jewish state.”
While some European companies may halt trade with Israel, most Americans are not participating in such a boycott, especially in regards to visiting the Holy Land. Landau announced 2013 was a recording breaking year for tourism as 3.5 million visitors walked where Jesus walked.
In 2011 Minister Uzi Landau introduced a bill to boycott Palestinian companies that boycott Israeli companies.
