During the airing of the 50th anniversary special of the iconic Christmas movie “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” President Obama failed to mention the true meaning of Christmas in his commentary on the movie.
The Christian Post reports that ABC celebrated the 50th anniversary of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by airing a special program entitled “It’s Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown.”
The program featured the original Charlie Brown Christmas film, as well as musical performances by Vince Guaraldi, Kristen Chenowith, Pentatonix, and others. The program also featured Barack and Michelle Obama.
Obama gave a short speech in which he commented on the famous scene of character Linus Van Pelt’s recitation of Luke 2:8-14 after Charlie Brown asks what Christmas is truly all about.
Although Luke 2:8-14 clearly outlines the Christmas story and Jesus’ birth, Obama said the part of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” which features this passage teaches “us that tiny trees just need a little love and that on this holiday we celebrate peace and Earth and good will toward all.”
The Christmas special did feature creator Charles Schultz’s commentary on how he decided to include the scene of Linus reciting the Christmas story as printed in Luke.
"[W]e cannot do this show without including the famous passage from Saint Luke,” Schultz realized. “And that had never been done before either. No one would put biblical passages in an animated show, and we did it. ... That was the highlight of the show.”
