Jane Marczewski, a Liberty University graduate whose stage name is Nightbirde, announced on Instagram that she will be leaving America's Got Talent due to "a turn for the worse" in her fight against cancer.
"Sharing my heart with the world on AGT has been an honor and a dream come true," Marczewski, 30, wrote on Instagram. "My point of view this summer has been astounding. What a miracle that the pain I've walked through can be reworked into beauty that makes people all over the world open their eyes wider," she added.
"Since my audition," Marczewski continued, "my health has taken a turn for the worse and the fight with cancer is demanding all of my energy and attention. I am so sad to announce that I won't be able to continue forward on this season of AGT."
Marczewski first made headlines after she earned a "golden buzzer" from AGT judge Simon Cowell following her audition for the televised talent show in June.
According to Good House Keeping, earning a golden buzzer is a great achievement since each judge is typically allotted one golden buzzer per season. If a contestant earns a golden buzzer, they are automatically sent to the AGT live shows, even if the other judges have an opinion different from that of the judge who pressed the buzzer.
During her audition, Marczewski, who sang an original song called "It's OK," shared that she has a two percent chance of beating her cancer, which has infected her lungs, spine and liver.
Despite facing a long battle against cancer, Marczewski has remained optimistic.
During her audition, she told the judges that while she is not okay in every way, she is bigger than the challenges before her.
"It's so important that everyone knows that I'm so much more than the bad things that happen to me," she told the judges before singing.
Marczewski's optimism was also reflected in her post announcing her departure from the show. She wrote, "Life doesn't always give breaks to those that deserve it—but we knew that already.
"Thank you for all your support, it means the world to me. Stay with me, I'll be better soon. I'm planning my future, not my legacy. Pretty beat up, but I've still got dreams," Marczewski concluded.
