Motive of Las Vegas Shooter Remains Unclear

The shooter at the deadly massacre in Las Vegas may have been planning something worse, according to reports.

Police have found 23 weapons in Stephen Paddock’s 32nd-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Paddock also had several pounds of ammonium nitrate in his car. Ammonium nitrate is used to make explosives.

Police also discovered another 19 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition at Paddock’s home in Mesquite, Nevada.

Paddock’s motives are still unknown.

Fifty-nine people were killed in the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival and another 527 people were injured— including stampede injuries and gunshot wounds.

There were about 22,000 people at the show Sunday night.

Witnesses say the scene was chaotic as the concert attendees tried to escape the shooter’s line of fire, but many ran back into the area to help others.

"We went back because I'm a nurse and I felt I had to," a nurse told reporters. "I went to three different scenes, and by the time I got to the third one, there was just dead bodies.

"There was so many people, just normal citizens, doctors, cops, paramedics, nurses, just off duty. Everyone was just communicating and working together."

Vigils have been held across the country to honor the victims of the shooting. So far, more than 12 of the 59 dead have been identified.

More than $3.2 million has been raised for relief and financial support for victims.

Strangers have also donated housing, food, transportation and flights to the relatives of victims.

"It takes the worst of America to also see the best of America," said survivor Dees Mansholt. "Everybody was helping each other."
