Megachurch Pastor Cites Most Misused Bible Verse

Megachurch pastor Craig Groeschel of Life.Church based in Oklahoma said 1 Timothy 6:10 about the love of money is one of the misused verses in the Bible. According to Groeschel, the scripture has been twisted to say that money is the root of all evil, not the love of money.

1 Timothy 6:10 says, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”

Groeschel says having money is not a sin. However, “Loving money is more dangerous than we can even get our minds around.”

The pastor also referenced Ecclesiastes 5:10 which reads, “Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.”

Groeschel told his congregants, “The richest are not the ones who have the most, but those who need the least. Discontentment can make a rich person poor, and contentment can make a poor person rich.”

The Blaze reports that Groeschel’s sermon about misused scripture came just before Donald Trump was criticized for saying that “Money is the root of all evil.”
