Megachurch Pastor Ronnie Floyd Elected Southern Baptist Convention President

Pastor Ronnie Floyd has won the election for the Southern Baptist Convention presidency. The Arkansas megachurch pastor won 51.62 percent of the vote, defeating opponents pastor Dennis Manpoong Kim of Maryland and pastor Jared Moore of Kentucky.

Floyd is the senior pastor of Cross Church, where he has served for 27 years reports Baptist Press.

He was nominated for the election by Albert Mohler, Jr., President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

“He’s a unifier and a denominational statesman. He knows the Southern Baptist Convention at every level, and he has served and led every level,” Mohler said in his nomination speech.

Mohler expressed his belief that Floyd “will lead all Southern Baptists, and he will lead us well. He is a bridge-builder who unites us theologically and stands in a direct line of noble leaders who have defended the inerrancy of Scripture and every doctrine of our Baptist Faith & Message.”

Before securing the presidency, Floyd said he would “call upon [the convention] to cry out to God in extraordinary prayer for the next great spiritual awakening in America,” if he won.
