Mars Hill Update: Huntington Beach Campus to Close, Olympia Campus to Become Independent

In late October, Mars Hill Church announced that its multi-campus organization would dissolve and churches would have the option of going independent, joining with other existing churches or closes their doors. Now Mars Hill campuses are beginning to announce which path they are choosing for their members.

According to Christian Today, the Olympia campus has decided to become and dependent church pending bank approval. Olympia will be called Harbor Church starting Jan. 1.

The Huntington Beach campus will be closing for good in December. The church has previously announced that it was facing severe financial problems and would likely be forced to close if giving did not increase.

After the announcement, Huntington Beach leader pastor Matt Wallace said, "The decision to move forward primarily rested upon my shoulders. While the call & desire to shepherd are present, the health & strength I need to do so at this time are not.”

According to Mars Hill leadership, all church congregations must decide which option they wish to take by January 2015.
