Manny Pacquiao Leaving Boxing to Focus on Family, Serve Filipino People

World boxing champion and committed Christian Manny Pacquiao has said he is retiring from boxing in order to spend more time with his family and to pursue his political career.

Pacquiao, who just last week came out victorious in a boxing match with Timothy Bradley, Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, has announced that he will be shelving his boxing career.

"I've committed to my family that after this fight I will spend more time with them and focus to serve the people of the Philippines," Pacquiao told the L.A. Times. "That is my priority."

Even while involved in his boxing career, Pacquiao has been committed to his family and home country.

Christian Today reports that he is currently running for a seat in the Philippine Senate, and has already served two terms as a congressman from the province of Sarangani. Filipinos will go to the polls on May 9 this year.

Although Pacquiao has said he is retiring from boxing, he did not completely rule out the possibility of returning to the sport one day.

"Let me enjoy first a retired life," Pacquiao told his fans. "If you ask me [if I'll] come back, I don't know. I might be enjoying retired life. I'm not there [retired life] yet, so I don't know the feeling. I've committed to my family, I've made my decision already."

Pacquiao also said that his investment in his family and community is of utmost importance to him:

"I want to leave behind a legacy of faith and a House of God," Pacquiao stated. "This is more self-fulfilling than my achievements in boxing and politics.”
