Olympic hurdler and bobsledder Lolo Jones has spoken out against the controversial film “Fifty Shades of Grey,” arguing that that kind of sex is not what God intended when he created intimacy.
In a Twitter post, the 32-year-old Christian athlete wrote, “Funny how some people think there's nothing wrong with 50 shades of Grey. God didn't create sex for that purpose. Watch another movie.”
After receiving harsh backlash, Jones defended her position in a Facebook post, explaining that she believes the pornographic and abusive depiction of sex in “Fifty Shades” is harmful to viewers.
“I just wish every woman would know she is worth more than what this movie depicts. And that every man knows being a gentleman is not outdated,” she wrote.
“Women were never created to be treated that horribly. And men were never created to treat women, or anyone for that matter, that abusively. It creates a completely false image of true love.”
Jones continued that statistically speaking, pornography is damaging to relationships.
“There are tons of statistics on how damaging porn, premarital sex and cohabiting are prior to marriage, completely unrelated to Christianity. That doesn’t even include how damaging sexual abuse is for individuals and couples alike,” she wrote.
In 2012 interview with HBO “Real Sports,” Jone said she was a virgin and intended to wait until marriage to have sex.
"It's just something, a gift I want to give my husband," she said. “But please understand that this journey has been hard. There are virgins out there and I'm going to let them know, it's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Harder than training for the Olympics. Harder than graduating from college."
