Lightning Causes Devastating Fire at Nashville Church

A Nashville-based church was destroyed in a fire caused by lightning. Trinity Church of the Nazarene was struck by lightning early Thursday morning, causing the roof to collapse over the sanctuary reports The Tennessean.

Though the building was destroyed, no one was injured in the fire. “The Holy Spirit don’t live in the building. He lives in people, and they’re here,” said Senior Pastor Mike Proctor.

Remarkably, Trinity Church of the Nazarene had been previously been struck by lightning in July 2012, causing the steeple to fall. “We’ve come through this before. We care about the building, but what really matters is the people,” Proctor said.

A nearby Baptist church will host the congregation of about 50 people this Sunday.
