Lecrae Leads Dove Award Nominations

The Gospel Music Association’s (GMA) Dove Award nominees have been announced, and rapper Lecrae is in the lead.

The Dove Awards, A Christian music award ceremony that celebrates achievement in Christian music in many categories including “New Artist of the Year,” “Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year, and “Songwriter of the Year," are set to take place on October 13, at Allen Arena, located on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lecrae has seven Dove Award nominations, including artist of the year, The Christian Post reports. His newest album, Anomaly, was released to much critical acclaim.

Other Christian artists and bands who are in the running for artist of the year include singer Kari Jobe, band for King & Country, well-known Christian band MercyMe, and singer Francesca Battistelli, who is also nominated for songrwriter of the year.

GMA’s executive director Jackie Patillo stated, "This is always an exciting day for us at the GMA. We are honored to recognize the many talents of our industry and the contributions they have made. This year gospel and Christian music's biggest night is going to be off the charts with unforgettable performances and special pairings."

Although the awards will take place on October 13, they will not air until October 18 on Trinity Broadcasting Family of Networks.
