Kentucky Clerk Refuses to Issue Gay Marriage Licenses Despite Supreme Court Ruling

A Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses since gay marriage was legalized nationwide in June, is continuing to stand her ground despite the Supreme Court’s ruling that she must give licenses to gay couples.

Fox News reports the Supreme Court ruled against Rowan County clerk Kim Davis on Monday (Aug. 31), deciding that Davis must issues same-sex marriage licenses despite her religious beliefs.

However, Davis continued to deny same-sex marriage licenses on Tuesday morning, though she could be fined or ordered to do jail time.

The Blaze reports couple David Mooreand David Ermold requested a marriage license on Tuesday, after being rejected by Davis three times previously. Davis denied the request a fourth time, in front of reporters and cameras.

According to The Blaze, Ermold said, “We’re not leaving until we have a license.”

Davis responded, “Then you’re going to have a long day.”

Davis said she intends to follow her religious beliefs by refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses “under God’s authority.”
