Islamic State Releases 270 Captives

The Islamic State has released 270 out of about 400 civilians whom it had kidnapped.

Christian Today reports that most of the released captives are women and children.

Although the Islamic State released these captives, it has reportedly taken 50 other male captives on Tuesday during raids in the Syrian town of Deir al-Zor.

The group is reportedly keeping male prisoners for further questioning.

The United States has condemned the violence perpetrated by the Islamic State.

"We demand the immediate and unconditional release of any civilians who were taken captive and of all those held by ISIL," U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner stated.

According to Christian Today, the Islamic State has laid siege to Deir al-Zor since last March.
